Netflix’s Agatha Christie’s The Seven Dials Filmed at Westonbirt House

Westonbirt House takes centre stage in the new Netflix adaptation of Agatha Christie’s classic mystery, streaming 15 January

Nestled in 210 acres of parkland near Tetbury, Westonbirt House provided a fittingly grand backdrop for Netflix’s forthcoming Agatha Christie adaptation, The Seven Dials. Chosen for it’s period elegance, the Grade I listed mansion was transformed into the heart of Christie’s 1920s world during an extensive summer shoot in 2024. The series streams globally on 15 January 2026.

Production teams selected Westonbirt for its authentic period architecture, sweeping staircases, and film-friendly layout – ideal for a story steeped in mystery, aristocracy and intrigue.

Filming Highlights at Westonbirt House

The Seven Dials crew spent eight weeks on site, making full use of the mansion’s grand interiors and extensive grounds. With the main shoot lasting nine days, Westonbirt House became a bustling production hub housing crew dining, hair & make-up, equipment stores and the video village in buildings across the Westonbirt Estate.

Key filming spaces included:

  • The Great Hall became a striking backdrop for arrival and gathering scenes
  • The Library was the perfect setting for the tense interrogation sequence
  • The Reading Room was host to a beautifully staged dinner scene
  • Mr Holford’s Bedroom from whence one character makes a daring escape

Other rooms used for filming included Mrs Holford’s Bedroom, the Ante Library, Sedgwick, the Head’s Drawing Room, The Great Hall Balcony, the Italian Gardens and the long sweeping driveway. Cast members Mia McKenna-Bruce and Martin Freeman were among those filming on location at Westonbirt House.

A Proven Location for Film and Television

Westonbirt House is no stranger to the screen. The estate recently appeared as ‘Wallace University’ in Netflix’s Sex Education Season 4 and has also hosted productions for the BBC and Paramount+.

With versatile interiors, ample crew facilities, and easy access from London, Bristol and Bath, it continues to attract both UK and international productions seeking a period mansion or stately home filming location.

Behind the Scenes

The Seven Dials team brought their own catering and stayed locally during the two-month shoot. Filming wrapped in September 2024, with a long post-production period ahead of its January 2026 release – a testament to the scale and polish of this new Christie adaptation.
